ARTHUR LEE LAND – BIO Arthur
Lee Land combines diverse influences to create a fresh new musical vibe: Afrograss
Flavored Folk Rock. During a tour of Nigeria and Ghana, West Africa in
2001, Arthur spawned the concept of Afrograss:
a synthesis of West African percussion and bluegrass in a folk rock
context with a touch of funk, jazz, reggae, latin and world beat. Touring
as a multi-instrumental solo act Arthur calls “A
One-Man Afrograss Folk Rock Ensemble,” he utilizes “loop” (live
recording) technology to create a full band sound by layering African
percussion, bass, acoustic & electric guitars, guitar synth, vocals
and talk box. A
talented multi-instrumentalist, Arthur has perfected The Art of Live
Looping during one-man performances that have dropped jaws at clubs and
concerts across the country. Arthur’s new release, a DVD entitled:
Live at Mystic Hot Springs serves as both an introduction to the
process of looping and a primer of Arthur’s sound and captures his
ability to settle into relaxed, infectious grooves while at the same time
busily creating multi-layered music—which he describes “stacked like
pancakes”—with acoustic and electric guitar, fluid bass lines, and an
array of percussion and effects.
Arthur's talent is spreading beyond the confines of Colorado including
national features in Frontier
Airlines' Wild Blue Yonder Magazine
and on the airlines' in-flight video channel, which aired 3 videos from
his Live
Looping In The House DVD
for over 3 months in the fall of 2006. “Lee
Land is one of those guys with so much natural talent his jaw-dropping
virtuosity seems effortless" said John Farmer of Wild Blue Yonder
Magazine.
Inspired
by the thriving Colorado music scene, Arthur uprooted from Chicago and
moved to Boulder in January of 2004. Arthur Lee Land’s local legend is
growing fast. Arthur was voted Best Singer/Songwriter by Colorado’s
Marquee Magazine for their 2005
Front Row Awards. After Arthur’s first performances as a student at
the 2002 Rocky Mountain Folks
Festival & Song School in Lyons Colorado, he was invited to return
as a guitar instructor and performer every year since then. Arthur’s
teaching and SRO performances were a huge success. Steve
Szymanski, VP of Planet Bluegrass, and the event’s producer,
commenting on Arthur’s universal demand among patrons AND performers at
the festival stated: “This guy
exudes musical magic!”
Arthur
Lee Land’s latest CD Dragonfly, released in
2005 on Perfect Groove Records, was produced by Grammy Award Nominated
songwriter and producer Wendy
Waldman (Save The Best For
Last, Fishin’ In The Dark, New Grass Revival). The CD consists of
songs co-written with his wife and lyricist Carol Lee. Dragonfly
features a cast of world-renowned musicians including: Joe
Craven (David Grisman Quintet, Garcia/Grisman) on mandolin, fiddle and
percussion; Mark Diamond (Big Swing
Trio) on acoustic bass; Scott
Babcock (Karla Bonoff) on drums and percussion; Michael Travis (The String Cheese Incident) on djembe/congas; Herb
Pederson (Old and In The Grey, Chris Hillman) on banjo; Greg

Lee Land on lead vocals and all guitars. In
and around touring and recording Arthur has been devoting more time to his
passion of working with youth and teaching. Arthur Lee Land’s
Musical Life Skills K-12 Assembly Program is a fun, engaging and
inspirational assembly that features Arthur’s "One-Man Afrograss
Folk Rock Ensemble." "Arthur
truly engages kids to a high degree. He knows how to speak their language.
Every student was absolutely fascinated” said Julie Pullium, Music
Teacher at Birch Elementary School, Broomfield CO. Through dynamic
performance, demonstration and audience participation, Arthur teaches that
the principles of HARMONY and LISTENING are not only a keys to making
great music, but are also key elements in developing great life skills. As
in life, so in art. For
